Bio

Randy Mason has been working the Nashville scene for 24 years. He and his brother Brent moved here from Grover Hill, Ohio where they were already known from their family band 'THE MASONS" which were widely known in the midwest.

In 1984, Randy joined Jimmy C. Newmans band CAJUN COUNTRY. There he worked the Grand Ole' Opry regularly among greats like Roy Acuff,Hank Snow, Minnie Pearl, and Bill Monroe.

In 1988 Conway Twitty called him on the phone and said "How would you like to join this little band I got....THE TWITTY BIRDS." Randy toured with Conway that year until 1989 when he left to work with a variety of country stars such as Jeanie Pruett, Shotgun Red, Kitty Wells, PeeWee King, Nat Stucky, Stella Parton, Hank Thompson, Buddy Emmons, Phil Baugh, and many others.

Randy then went back to The Grand Ole' Opry with Jimmy C. in 1990 and doing T.V. shows like "NASHVILLE NOW" AND "OPRY LIVE". Mason toured Europe with him many times and sold out crowds.
In 1996, Merle Haggard asked Randy to join his band "THE STRANGERS". Merle was his all-time hero and said "yes". But Merle wanted Randy to play rhythm guitar because he had
heard him play guitar at first. He then went to the drums the following year and drummed until 1999. Randy is on many Haggard albums including.."LIVE AT BILLY BOB'S",
"UNFORGETTABLE", "CABIN IN THE HILLS", "THE PEER SESSIONS",
"IF I COULD ONLY FLY", and others. Randy also is in the movie "WAG THE DOG" with Merle.

Randy also played with Brent on t.v. shows like "FRIENDS", ESPN shows, "LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS", and many others. He's on Brent's instructional video and played drums on "SWING WITH A STING" on Brent's "HOT WIRED" album.

Randy loves western swing and recorded two albums with "JOHN ENGLAND AND THE WESTERN SWINGERS" which was No. 1 on the western swing charts. On those Randy was featured on several vocal tunes too.

Randy and Brent are now releasing their 1st cd together called "SMOKIN' SECTION". It features vocals and instrumentals written by them. It has a blend of country, jazz, and blues.

Randy is currently with Jimmy C. Newman doing the Opry and sessions and you can even find him jamming downtown sometimes. Look for the new cd!
